JDLH Livestock Show & Youth Field Trial

The South Carolina Governor's School for Agriculture at John de la Howe (JDLH) will host a Livestock Show and Youth Field Trial on Saturday, March 6, 2021. Livestock shows will consist of: swine, rabbits, pocket pets, and beef. Check-in and showtimes are as follows:

SWINE | Check-In: 9:00 AM, Show: 10:00 AM

RABBIT & POCKET PETS | Check-In: 9:00 AM, Show: 10:00 AM

BEEF | Check-In: 1:00 PM, Show: 2:00 PM

YOUTH FIELD TRIAL | Begins at 8:00 AM

These events will be held outside on the JDLH campus green (192 Gettys Road, McCormick, SC 29835). Masks will be required and social distancing will be enforced. JDLH student clubs and organizations will be present to sell snacks, drinks, products, etc. $10 lunch plates/tickets will be available for purchase at the JDLH Cafeteria.

Those interested in participating in the livestock show or field trial must complete the entry forms below. The beef and rabbit show is open to out-of-state exhibitors. The swine show will be limited to South Carolina project exhibitors. Forms must be returned by email or mailed (postmarked) by February 15, 2021.

Beef Judge Bio

Terry Burks

Terry BurksTerry is a retired Professor of English Studies from Chifeng University in The People’s Republic of China. Prior to that, he was employed by the Kentucky Department of Agriculture in the Division of Show and Fair Promotion where he served as the educational coordinator, swine show director, and worked as a federal livestock grader. Earlier, he worked as a herdsman for Beeler Farms Inc., a 1200 head Hampshire, and white-line swine operation. Terry was also the owner of Dynasty Club Lambs & Meat Goats.

Terry grew up showing Simmental cattle and was extremely active in the American Junior Simmental Association.

Terry received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees in the area of Animal Science from Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green, Kentucky.

Terry has judged over 900 Junior and open livestock shows in 42 states. Some of his shows include Houston, San Antonio, Dallas, San Angelo, Austin, Waco, The North American International, The American Royal, The National Western, The Great Western, The Cow Palace, The Dixie National, Tulsa, the Oklahoma Youth Expo, The Arizona National, The Pennsylvania Farm Show, The Fall Classic and the Belt Buckle Bonanza. He has judged State Fairs in Texas, Kentucky, Tennessee, Indiana, Illinois, Ohio, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Louisiana, Florida, North Carolina, South Carolina, West Virginia, Kansas, New Mexico, Idaho, Nevada, Arizona, Oregon, California, and Alaska. Terry has also judged numerous County, Regional, and Jackpot shows across the nation.

Terry is a certified judge with the American Boer Goat Association, the former American Meat Goat Association, and the American Dorper Sheep Association.

Terry and his wife Alice live in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
