The administration of the Governor's School for Agriculture has announced its plans to make up instructional time lost during the aftermath of Hurricane Helene.

Principal Greg Thompson issued the following release this afternoon (10/10):

Due to the devastating effects of Hurricane Helene, our students and staff have missed a total of 8.5 Instructional Learning Days.

We have a plan in place to make these days up with the help of the Local Board and S.C. Department of Education. The Local Board will waive 3 days upon voting and the SCDOE will waive 3 days. This leaves us with a total of 2.5 days to make up in addition to our Enrichment Week that was missed during our time out that we must make up.

Here is the approach to that make-up:

----

1. One day will be made up by having an “Extended Week”, October 21-25, 2024.

Morning Meeting

7:45 – 7:55 a.m.

1st Block

8:00 – 9:25 a.m.

2nd Block

9:30 – 11:00 a.m.

Lunch

11:05 – 11:40 a.m.

Special Assignment (TBA)

11:45 – 12:25 p.m.

3rd Block

12:30 – 1:55 p.m.

4th Block

2:00 – 3:30 p.m.

2. Two (2) Days will be made up by E-Learning, with our built-in make-up days November 25-26, 2024.

3. The enrichment week missed (September 30 – October 2) will be made up by conducting it November 6-8, 2024.

----

Making up these days allows us to stay in compliance with the SCDOE Seat time, and Mandatory number of Instructional Days Laws (190).

We will officially have made up 8.5 days of instructional days and our original Enrichment Week II by the end of Semester 1.

We understand these changes may cause some confusion, so I have updated the Academic Calendar to reflect the changes.

Please see the Updated Calendar attached to this memorandum.

We appreciate your understanding and support during this time.
