Outreach team visit with eighth graders at the P2PSC Expo

Finding the newest crop of Aggies is part of the mission of the South Carolina Governor’s School for Agriculture’s admissions team, and this week they took that outreach to the beach.

Our Aggie recruiters have spent the past two days meeting prospective future students during the Pathways2Possibilities Career Expo, held at the Myrtle Beach Convention Center. The expo welcomed eighth-grade students from 10 counties along the Grand Strand and Pee Dee: Horry, Georgetown, Marion, Florence, Marlboro, Lee, Darlington, Clarendon, Dillon and Williamsburg.

“Our outreach team is thrilled to attend P2PSC this week and have the opportunity to showcase the Governor’s School for Agriculture to thousands of eighth graders in the state,” said Kinsley Miller, Director of Outreach. “Events like this are ideal for our team to promote our mission and recruit ideal candidates to become the next generation of leaders in agriculture.”

At the Governor’s School for Agriculture booth, prospective future Aggies were greeted not just by outreach ambassadors Michael Murphy and Hannah Mosley but also by our school’s towering, inflatable behorned mascot. Our exhibit also featured hands-on examples of our instructional pathways, including wildlife pelts and antlers, a cutaway of an engine, and a hydroponics station.

The expo brought together professionals from 19 career pathways who created hands-on experiences to allow students to explore various fields. They shared what life is like in their careers and outlined the necessary training and education. More than 7,000 students were expected to attend the South Carolina edition of the Pathways2Possibilities event.

Pathways2Possibilities is an ever-expanding nonprofit initiative that began in November 2013 in Biloxi, Mississippi, and has since expanded to events in other communities in Mississippi and Tennessee. The South Carolina P2P expo debuted in 2019.

In addition to the S.C. Governor’s School for Agriculture, other educational institutions in attendance included Clemson University, Coastal Carolina University, the College of Charleston, Florence-Darlington Technical College, Horry-Georgetown Tech, Williamsburg Technical College and the S.C. Governor’s School for Science & Mathematics.
